Introducing ‘Here’

Hey y’all, I know things have been a little quite around the blog. I’ve been doing family sessions, a few late-season weddings, and working on this website for a personal project I’ve been working on for some time.

‘Here’, is a series I’ve been working on for about a year now, of environmental portraits of transgender, non-binary, and other gender identities along with personal statements from the folks I’ve worked with. Thank you for taking a look!

An Alternative Bridal Session with Valentine

I’ve had an eye on my neighbor’s magically overgrown backyard as a potential shoot location, it’s full of nasturtium, blackberry brambles, and trees in desperate need of a good pruning. Model and artist Valentine is one of the most adventurous models I know, and she didn’t hesitate once to crawl through all kinds of overgrowth for our time together. The flowers are from Mille Fiori, a small flower stand on Piedmont Ave in Oakland which has some of the best prices on quality blooms in Oakland. Our concept for this session was a gothy alternative bridal summer look.

You can check out Valentine on her Instagram (Heads up, some of her other work is a little less clothed than this session! ) or reach her via twitter if you’re interested in booking.

Happy Halloween! One of my favorite holidays. Costumes, candy, little kids having fun, and all the witches come out during golden hour.

The gorgeous and talented Laika Fox jumped in front of the camera for a session in Mountain View Cemetery.

San Francisco Artist Portrait, Ted Naifeh

I’ve known Ted Naifeh for a long, long time (15+ years! eeek!), and have photographed him many times. We collaborated years ago (10!) on a graphic novel about San Francisco counter-culture, called ‘How Loathsome’. Ted’s become known for writing and illustrating several groundbreaking young-adult graphic novel series including ‘Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things’, ‘Princess Ugg’, and ‘Polly and Pirates’.
